Sundarbans Photo Safari
The world’s largest mangrove delta. Tigers that swim between islands. Birds found nowhere else on Earth. This is India like nowhere else.
The Journey
A World Unlike Any Other
The world’s largest mangrove delta — a place unlike anywhere on Earth. Tigers here swim between islands and have adapted entirely to a tidal, labyrinthine world. A boat safari through the Sundarbans is an experience that belongs in a different category entirely.
This is a hosted photography safari — small, intimate, and designed for serious wildlife photographers. Maximum four guests. Debashri leads every boat safari personally. Oct–Dec only.
The Sundarbans rewards patience and presence. Come with both.

What to Expect
Moments That Stay With You
Tigers of the Mangroves
The Sundarbans tiger is unlike any other — adapted to swimming between islands in a saltwater delta. Sightings are never guaranteed here, but the search itself is extraordinary.
Endemic Birdlife
The Sundarbans is one of India’s most important birding destinations — home to species found nowhere else, including the Masked Finfoot, Mangrove Pitta, and Brown-winged Kingfisher.
Dawn on the Delta
The light on the Sundarbans waterways at dawn is unlike anything in India. Mist over the mangroves, the tide turning, the forest waking. For photographers, this alone is worth the journey.
When to Go
Timing Your Sundarbans Safari
The Sundarbans has a short, specific window. Here’s when to go.
Peak Season
November — December
The ideal window. Cool, dry, and clear — the best conditions for both photography and wildlife. Tigers are more active, bird numbers peak with winter migrants, and the light on the water is extraordinary.
Early Season
October
The monsoon is ending and the delta is coming alive. October brings the first clear days and excellent birding as migrants begin to arrive. A good option for those who want the Sundarbans before the peak crowds arrive.
Not Available
January — September
This itinerary runs October to December only. Outside this window, conditions in the delta are not suitable for this safari.
Debashri’s Recommendation
November
If you can only travel in one month, November is the sweet spot — cooler, clearer, and with the highest bird diversity of the season.
💡 Debashri’s tip: The Sundarbans is the one place I tell guests to expect nothing and be prepared for everything. Tiger sightings here are rare — but the delta never disappoints. The birds alone are worth the journey. Come with patience and a wide-angle lens.
